Hi guys. Been doing a lot of reading lately and thought to share an excerpt from one of the books named – ‘I dare you’ by Joyce Meyer.
Before I do though, let me ask, ‘why do you do what you do?’
Hold that thought while you read the following, ‘I once heard a story about a lighthouse keeper who worked on a rocky stretch of coastline. Once a month he would receive a new supply of oil to keep the light burning so ships could safely sail near the rocky coast. One night, though, a woman from a nearby village came and begged him for some oil to keep her family warm. Another time a father asked for some to use in his lamp. Another man needed to lubricate a wheel. Since all the requests seemed legitimate, the lighthouse keeper tried to please everyone and grant the requests of all. Toward the end of the month, the man noticed his supply of oil was dangerously low. Soon it was gone, and one night the light on the lighthouse went out. As a result, that evening several ships were wrecked and countless lives were lost. When the authorities investigated, the man was very apologetic. He told them he was just trying to be helpful with the oil. Their reply to his excuses however, was simple and to the point: “You were given oil for one purpose, and one purpose only – to keep that light burning!”
When was the last time you took a minute to think about why you do what you do? What is it that guides your choices and makes your decisions and carries out your actions? Are you doing what you’re supposed to be doing? And are you doing it with eagerness and dedication? It’s sad to say but most people never stop long enough to ask themselves why they are doing what they are doing, but it is one of God’s main concerns. Actually He is not impressed by what we do, but rather He’s interested in “why” we do it. Good works done with wrong motives will not receive any reward when we stand before God on Judgment Day.’
PERSONAL NOTE
The thing is, we begin to misuse stuff when we aren’t specific on the ‘why?’ For some, at the beginning they know the reason for doing but along the way, they lose sight of what got them started in the first place. #pity#
Also, I gotta ask, ‘what have you done/ (or) are you doing with what God has entrusted into your care? You know you are gonna give a well-detailed account before Him, right?
Romans 14:12: (NLT) “Yes, each of us will have to give a personal account to God.”
Seeing as that’s the way it’s gonna be, we better get right to work then.
If at the end of the day all you have is God, then you have more than enough.
